BEI has been engaged by MSU to design architectural and engineering modifications to the Mason Abbot Residence Hall on campus. These structures, built in the 1930's, are an important part of the fabric of the campus and with these necessary modifications, will give the students and University functionality into the next millennium.

The scope of BEI's work includes renovation and remodeling of the bathrooms, both upgrading the facilities while also bringing them into ADA compliance. The upgrading also includes replacement of all above-grade piping.

Renovations to the ventilation and heating system include replacement and upgrade of the steam and condensate systems within the facility which controls the steam supplied by the Central Heating Plant. Additionally, individual temperature control valves for the dormitory rooms.

Extensive work is being carried out on the exterior of the building caulking and tuck pointing of exterior building joints, renovation and restoration of surface drainage, gutters, rain conductors, etc.

The electrical systems include installation and upgrade of the emergency exit lighting system throughout the facility, changing all existing grounded outlets to grounded type, replacement of all existing lights with energy efficient lighting systems.
Life safety upgrades include installation of fire extinguishers to meet NFPA-10 standards, replacement of existing stand pipe system with new to comply with NFPA-14 requirements and new separate fire water main to the buildings.
