BEI prepared designs for renovations and an addition to this technology oriented high school, which was originally built in 1915. The addition consisted of 15,500 square feet.
Renovations included various health, safety, and security improvements, as well as mechanical and electrical system updating which provides for current and future technology; and an addition to the existing gymnasium, rotating the court to allow retractable spectator seating for competitive events.
The new gym was provided with new mechanical and electrical systems, as well as new roofing and insulation over both existing and new portions of the gymnasium. The existing worn and uneven natural wood flooring was removed and new natural wood flooring was installed over the entire combined area. All walls were glazed concrete masonry to resemble the existing structural glazed tile that lines the existing gymnasium walls. A two-hour fire separation wall was established around the new gymnasium also included the second level corridor walls.
Also included were two health classrooms and an elevator for handicapped access for the four levels of this 160,000 square foot school.
