wayne_BEI has provided architectural/engineering services for the new Undergraduate Library on the university campus. The masonry exterior building features 2,700 study stations, including 900 state-of-the-art work stations and electronic cataloging services. The design/build project was so successful that it was actually completed under budget and ahead of schedule. This amazing accomplishment for a project of such magnitude and complexity was made possible by a close-knit team consisting of the Owner, Wayne State University; the Architect, BEI Architects & Engineers, Inc.; and the Construction Manager, Walbridge/White. Open communication and dialogue were maintained throughout the design, engineering, and construction phases of the project.

Within this library, undergraduate students have the opportunity to master the skills necessary for academic success at the University and for success as information literate citizens of the 21st Century. The library contains several features to spark student interest and to large their view of the world by adding new dimensions to their campus experience. An attractive welcome lobby contains a mini amphitheater, highlighting faculty and student talents featuring musical presentations, poetry readings, and other performances.

A large auditorium offers venue for teleconferences or creative scholarly, and scientific multimedia presentations. A less formal gathering place behind the auditorium is equipped with a large screen television/video projection system, broadcasting world events or breaking news stories.
